As Prime Minister Modi and the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) initiate reforms to improve India’s investment climate, capital markets will offer new opportunities for private equity and the financial services industry. This is a key period for investors to deepen their engagement in India and work with policymakers to build an even more robust regulatory framework that will ensure market integrity and investor protection.

The U.S.-India Business Council (USIBC) and HSBC are pleased to host SEBI Chairman Ajay Tyagi, who will meet with U.S. industry leaders to for a conversation on investor issues and areas for reform in the Indian markets.

Ajay Tyagi assumed the role of Chairman, Securities and Exchange Board of India, in March 2017. He previously served as Additional Secretary for the Ministry of Finance’s Department of Economic Affairs, where he oversaw the  capital market, investment, infrastructure, and currency and coinage divisions. Chairman Tyagi, an Indian Administrative Service Officer from the Himachal Pradesh Cadre, has held several positions in both state and central governments. He received a bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering and master’s in Computer Science, and received a master’s in Public Administration from Harvard University
