ROUNDTABLE WITH DEFENSE PRODUCTION SECRETARY & MINDEF OFFICIALS

On August 1, the U.S.-India Business Council will host a members-only meeting with Defence Production Secretary of India Dr. Ajay Kumar.  Since assuming this role in December 2018, Kumar has focused on ship construction, R&D, innovation, and building an ecosystem that supports Indian firms competing in the global defence market. 

Dr. Kumar is considered one of the most influential officials in India’s defence procurement process, and is known for implementing new processes designed to help India design and develop cutting-edge weapons and artillery. He has encouraged public-private partnerships in defence, with particular impact on India’s arms exports and licensing system. 

Dr. Kumar was also a driving force behind India’s Draft Defence Production (DDP) Policy 2018, which envisioned India as one of the world’s top 5 sources of defense technology by 2025.
