INDIAN DATA PRIVACY BILL: RAPID RESPONSE CALL

The U.S.-India Business Council’s Privacy Working Group will host a rapid response call on India’s Personal Data Protection Bill (PDPB). Following approval by the Union Cabinet earlier this week, the bill is heading towards debate in India’s Parliament. However, a copy of the updated and now-final bill is not yet publicly available. Given extensive industry consultations around the bill, speculation is rampant about the exact changes made relative to the draft PDPB.

Covington and Burling Partner and Chair for U.S. Privacy Kurt Wimmer and Khaitan & Co Partner for Corporate and Commercial, Data Privacy and Protection Supratim Chakraborty will moderate the discussion. We will share the latest on the bill’s status and next steps, as well as insights from our members. We will also discuss options for further engagement and strategies for our privacy efforts in 2020.
