U.S.-India Strategic Trade Initiative

Members Only

The USIBC Strategic Trade Initiative focuses on reducing the principal trade and investment barriers of commercial significance to USIBC member companies and will build towards substantial market opening arrangements designed to bring broadly inclusive growth to both countries. The USIBC, working with stakeholders in the U.S. and India, seeks to change the paradigm on U.S.-India trade and develop broad-based support in both countries for a robust trade and investment relationship appropriate for these dynamic economies and strategic partners.

The Strategic Trade Initiative aims to unleash market forces supporting free trade and investment in a socially sustainable manner and will work in cooperation with the Private Sector Advisory Group (PSAG) to the U.S. – India Trade Policy Forum, of which USIBC President Ron Somers is a member.  The PSAG, a small group of global trade experts and business leaders from the U.S. and India, was recently established to advise and support Ambassador Susan Schwab and Commerce Minister Kamal Nath on moving the bilateral trade relationship forward.

Just as the US-India trade relationship has expanded, so has the bilateral investment relationship.  A new "two way street" is being paved by multinationals in both countries.  The "Investing in America: The Indian Story" initiative explores the evolving story of Indian company investments in the US and how they are contributing to the American economy and social fabric.
