Led by USIBC Chairman, the delegation sees a three-fold increase compared to last Vibrant Gujarat, and includes five USIBC Board Members
January 8, 2015 - Ahmedabad, India - The U.S.-India Business Council (USIBC) has announced that it is bringing the largest ever U.S. business delegation to Vibrant Gujarat 2015, the seventh edition of India's largest investor summit that begins Sunday. USIBC is also a partner organization at this year’s Vibrant Gujarat Summit, which will be inaugurated by India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Led by USIBC Chairman Ajay Banga, CEO and President, MasterCard, the executive business delegation will be in India from January 10 through 13, and includes several Fortune 500 CEOs and senior executives, in addition to a heavyweight government delegation led by US Secretary of State John Kerry. On the side lines of the Vibrant Gujarat summit, the USIBC delegates will also be meeting Gujarat's Chief Minister Anandiben Patel and senior state and central government officials.
The delegation comprises of top business leaders including Ms. Ellen Lord, CEO, Textron Systems; Mr. David Farr, CEO and Chairman of Emerson Electric; Mr. Jaspal Bindra, CEO Asia and Group Executive Director, Standard Chartered; and Mr. Chris Hagedorn, Group Executive & Chief Development Director, Peabody Energy. Few of the other top global companies that are part of the USIBC contingent include Westinghouse Electric Company, Yum! Brands, Ford Motor, Abbott Laboratories and Pfizer.
Diane Farrell, Acting President, USIBC, who landed in India earlier this week to oversee the preparations, noted, “President Obama and PM Modi’s shared vision of inclusive growth has led to a definitive spike within the business communities. With the second bilateral meeting scheduled in a short span of four months when President Obama comes in as the Chief Guest for India’s Republic Day, the signals to expand trade between our two great free-market democracies have been the strongest ever. This time, the USIBC delegation to Vibrant Gujarat is three-times larger than the last Summit, which shows the sizable interest U.S. has in participating in India’s growth.”
USIBC was instrumental in engagements with Gujarat since 2008. Ahead of the Vibrant Gujarat 2015 summit, the USIBC also hosted a high-powered delegation from the Government of Gujarat and the leaders of Gujarat’s business community last year in Silicon Valley, Chicago, New York and Washington, D.C., to help the U.S. companies understand Gujarat as an investment destination and the future of Gujarat’s economic success as a key state in India’s continued economic development. The USIBC, which also led a strong business delegation during President Obama’s last India visit in November 2010, has been instrumental in expanding bilateral trade along the U.S.-India business corridor over the last forty years.
Formed in 1975 at the request of the U.S. and Indian governments, the U.S.-India Business Council (USIBC) is the premier business advocacy organization advancing U.S.-India commercial ties. Today, USIBC is the largest bilateral trade association in the United States, with liaison presence in New York, Silicon Valley, and New Delhi, comprised of 310 of the top-tier U.S. and Indian companies. The Chairman of USIBC is Ajay Banga, President and CEO, MasterCard.
