After the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, 2016 (the 'Act') was partially implemented in May 2016, it was incumbent on the states to draw up the rules for their respective states for carrying out the purpose of the Act and establishing the regulatory authority. From 1 May 2017, the entire Act has been brought into force by the Central Government (except in the State of Jammu and Kashmir) thereby embarking the beginning of a new era in the real estate sector of the country. So far, only a few states have come up with their rules.

Khaitan & Co. and Knight Frank take a look at how the rules framed by different states stack up in their joint report.
