Data Privacy in India:  What You Need to Know

While India's regulatory data privacy framework has been evolving towards global standards, several facets of this evolution have led to confusion, especially among companies with cross-border operations or transferring data between India and the US. Judicial pronouncements have created ripples, including the recent Delhi High Court decision on WhatsApp's sharing user information with Facebook. Also, at this juncture, when your employees and customers are increasingly becoming sensitive about their privacy rights and airing candid views on social media platforms, data privacy measures are both mission critical and can provide your company a real business advantage if handled well. To give the practical guidance on how to successfully deal with data privacy issues involving both the US and India, Supratim Chakraborty from Khaitan & Co, one of India's oldest and largest full service law firms, and Mike Piazza of DLA Piper, one of the world's leading law firms on global and US data privacy, in conjunction with the US-India Business Council, will host a webinar on January 18, 2017.

As our special guest, we will be joined by leading data privacy expert Ken Bamberger, the Rosalinde and Arthur Gilbert Foundation Professor of Law at UC Berkeley, and Faculty Director, Berkeley Center for Law and Technology, for his unique insights on data privacy best practices. During the webinar, we will share practical experience and guidance on the subject and ways for companies to best navigate the applicable Indian regulatory regime, particularly for those companies operating in or moving data between the US and India.

TOPICS COVERED:

• Key points of the Indian and US legal and regulatory data privacy/protection regimes that you need to know
• Data privacy traps for the unwary and practical tips to minimize adverse exposure for companies conducting cross border business activities or transferring data between the US and India
• Global data privacy best practices and their applicability to US/India cross-border transfers
