Panel 2 - The Process of Innovation: Case Studies in Developing a Competitive Environment
Innovation and invention are often falsely characterized as a fortuitous occurrence at some moment in time, with little heed paid to the process and investment which lead to it. This session will explore the process of innovation and the role of government policy in fostering an environment which allows innovation to proper—including policies related to intellectual property protection and enforcement, antitrust, standards, tax, investment, venture capital, education, and research and development. The participants will outline the R&D process in their industry, highlighting the various policies which have allowed and encouraged them to invest in innovation, as well as those policies that have hindered innovation.
